APOLLINAIRE Guillaume (1880-1918)
Autograph letter signed S.l., 20 V [May] 1914. 2 pages in-8 in ink. (Letter partially faded). Letter relative to the poet Vincent Muselli (1879 - 1956). Apollinaire thanks his correspondent for sending his book of verses which he will talk about in the review Les Soirées de Paris (review to which he contributed from February 1912 to August 1914), and takes the liberty of recommending the book of verses of his friend Vincent Muselli who is competing for a prize and a travel grant. "I have no doubt that you will take an interest in these well-done verses, sprouting from a traditional vein and wonderfully condensed lyricism. If even they did not hold your attention for the prize they seem worthy of, I am sure they would force your esteem. This is basically what Muselli's main ambition is. But I also know that the prize would be very useful to this interesting boy in more ways than one, as a poet and as a philosopher". Vincent Muselli's poems appeared in issue 109 of the Mercure de France of May-June 1914. The same year saw the publication of his first collection entitled Les Travaux et les Jeux (Works and Games).
