BRASILLACH Robert (1909-1945)
Six hours to lose, autograph manuscript (fragments) [1944]. 53 pages in-8 in blue ink on paper, erasures and corrections and pasted fragments. Important fragments of this posthumous novel. Written in the first half of 1944, and published as a serial in the weekly Révolution nationale between March 11 and June 10, 1944, the novel Six Hours to Lose is one of Brasillach's last works; it will be published by Plon in 1953. The subject, closely related to Brasillach's memories of captivity, must have been conceived immediately after his return to France in 1941. The novel, partly autobiographical, is marked by impressions of the camp. These pages often take as their starting point the regular chronicle he had undertaken upon his return to inform the prisoners' families. The novel continues under the Occupation, and evokes the actions of the Resistance. The manuscript was used for the printing of the novel in the newspaper it corresponds to the Third Part of the book and includes chapters 2, 4, the end of chapter 5 with the beginning of chapter 6; chapter 2 is written on the back of printed pages of English and German exams. An autograph signed letter addressed to Lucien Combelle is attached. Paris, Sunday 194? (half page in-4 with the heading "Je suis partout"). "[...] I hope the censors won't mind [...]".
