BARTÓK Béla(1881-1945)
L.A.S. "Béla Bartók", Budapest 6 November 1923, to Fritz WINDISCH, 1 page and a half large in-8; in German. On the organization of concerts of his works in Germany . Fritz WINDISCH, former editor of the German magazine Melos for modern music, also organized concerts in Germany. In particular, there is mention of the Hungarian violinist Imre WALDBAUER (1892-1952), violinist, founder of the Hungarian Quartet, who created the first four Bartók Quartets]. He is sorry he hasn't received an answer from Waldbauer. He had seen him in mid-September, and Waldbauer intended to write to Windisch to find out how many concerts he was actually planning, as he had told him about a concert, whereas Bartók would like two chamber concerts, one with the Quartetten, the other with the Violin Sonata: "ich dagegen von zwei Kammerkonzerten (eines mit den Quartetten, das andere mit der Violinsonate) wusste". Waldbauer is in Holland, then he will play in Paris on 18 November; he will return to Budapest in mid-December. Bartók fears that the Waldbauer-Quartett's participation will encounter great difficulties because of the dates. If this were the case, he regrets that the Budapester-Quartett (Hauser-Son) could be contacted. He has heard so much good things about this quartet that he can be confident in its performance. As for the Violin Sonata, he worked on it this summer with a young Hungarian violinist, who plays it very well: Zoltan SZÉKELY. He spends the season in Holland near the German border. He could and would like to play the Sonata in Berlin, if his travel expenses are paid. As for Bartók, he is free from January 3 to the end of February... He finally asks what is the program planned for the concert in Leipzig: pieces for piano, the Violin Sonata, or only the Quartets: "Klavierstücke? Violinsonate ? oder bloss Streichquartette ? "...
