LE BRIX Joseph (1889-1931) aviateur
L.A.S. "LeBrix", Paris 7 September [1930], to Jean MERMOZ; 2 pages in-4 (cracks in the folds, repairs, slight soiling). Interesting letter, which Mermoz had to keep folded in his wallet for a long time. He learned of Mermoz's accident and his "miraculous rescue" [during a test of the Laté 28-8, the plane burst in flight, and Mermoz was saved by the parachute that Didier Daurat had ordered him to take], and he congratulates him on his marriage. "I thought a lot about you when you were on the fleet and twice fighting against the bad visibility and the doldrums squalls" . He has plans "with a beautiful machine that I would have been very happy to entrust to you because I know you would have made the most of it. Unfortunately [...] another rider, a very nice one by the way, is imposed. Nevertheless, I don't despair to have the opportunity to meet you again to do sensational things in the near future when the machine will be free [...] COSTES and BELLONTE made a magnificent flight that certainly tempted you. For my part I've been thinking about it for 26 years, but who knows, maybe it's possible to do better? In any case it is French people on a brilliant French material who have crossed. That's the main thing"... PROVENANCE Aéronautique, Lettres et manuscrits de Jean Mermoz (Artcurial, 13 October 2008, M56).
