HEADQUARTERS OF METZ (2 AUGUST TO 27 OCTOBER 1870) - CORRESPONDENCE OF GEORGE ROBINSON - Letter in English from George ROBINSON, correspondent for the Manchester Guardian, dated Metz on 16 August 1870 (2 days before the Head Office) addressed to his wife Fannie. Letter by which he informs her of his situation and asks her not to write to him at his Metz address, which he will be obliged to leave. TB - Letter in English dated 20 August 1870 (2 days after the beginning of the Siege), addressed to his wife Fannie, which he tried unsuccessfully to send to her by "passeur". The letter has on the back the indication: "Returned September 11th". TB. - Message written on 19 September by Robinson on the inside of the canvas of the ball that left on 20 September and arrived in Fresnes-en-Woevre. Message discovered in Fresnes-en-Woevre and sent back to his wife in England. In an envelope. Four messages of this type written inside the same balloon are known. - Letter in English signed "Georgie - J. Robinson" dated Metz l4 October 1870, addressed to his wife Fannie in Southport (Lancashire). New unsuccessful attempt to send by ''passer'', when the departure of the Genie's balloons had just been stopped by General Bazaine: "I hope some of the many letters I have sent to you by balloon post will have reached you...". Extraordinary testimony from the Headquarters in Metz.
