[99 to 101] 14 messidor. He thanks him for sending the Civil Code. "From Boulogne I went to Ambleteuse. From there, I visited on horseback the whole coast along the sea, from Boulogne to Calais. I was extremely pleased with the spirit of the city of Calais. I left Calais for Gravelines, and Saturday at 4 p.m. I arrived in Dunkirk. I was this morning in the large harbor then I received all the authorities. One cannot add anything to the praise of the good spirit of all these cities of trade. I found the navy in Dunkirk badly organized and directed by men more than mediocre"... 14 Messidor.
