BARBEY D'AUREVILLY Jules (1808-1889).
L.A.S. "Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly", [1860, to his publisher Achille BOURDILLIAT]; 2 pages in-8 in red ink (small crack repaired). Barbey d'Aurevilly intervenes with his publisher to warmly recommend the writer Prosper VIALON (1817-1873). "Dear Editor, I would have liked to give my arm to Madame Viallon who will bring you this letter, but what I would say in front of her, I want to say here from her husband, Prosper Viallon, who asked me to put her in touch with you. I am therefore chaperoning her, and I assure you that he is a hawk of good breeding. He has written in the country and he has written everywhere. He has the dramatic movement, the interest, the warmth, that which takes most to the hair the public, and sometimes to the Entrailles. If I were Mr. Bourdillat, I would edit him! When a man has told another man everything he would do in his place, he has said everything. But let me add that if you do a deal with Mr. Viallon (and I believe it will be good for both of us) you will have given me great pleasure. Farewell, - and Our Prophets? "... [This is the second edition of his book The Prophets of the Past (published in 1860 by Bourdilliat publishers)].
