COCTEAU Jean Indirect criticism test. The Secular Mystery - Fine Arts considered as an assassination. Preceded by an introduction by Bernard Grasset (Paris, Bernard Grasset, collection "Pour mon plaisir",[1932]); in-4 Tellière, stapled, all margins, partially uncut, blankets filled, shirt back covered and case. Collective edition, and in part original (Le Mystère laïc: essai d'étude indirecte had been published by Éditions des Quatre Chemins in 1928). Photographic frontispiece reproducing a painting by Giorgio de CHIRICO. One of the 72 copies on pure yarn vellum (n° 15). Original pen and pen drawing occupying the entire page of the fake title, with autographed signature: "to the very dear Dr. Szigeti Souvenir 13 amical Jean". Robert SZIGETI (1905-1990), doctor and mayor of Montargis, deputy, was president of the Association of Friends of Max Jacob. The drawing depicts a figure in profile, dressed in a long toga that partially covers his bust and head; his gaze is directed towards two masks, which float in the air; in the background, set in two buildings of modern architecture in the manner of Chirico, one decorated with a watchtower.
