COCTEAU Jean - Lot 128
COCTEAU Jean Autograph MANUSCRIT signed "Jean Cocteau",[April 1954]; 2 pages in-4 with blue ballpoint pen (paper clip marks). Presentation speech of Marc'O's film Closed Vision at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival. A symbolist and revolutionary essay, this first feature film by MARC'O was, according to Cocteau, to save cinema by producing a shock on the audience, who were not used to this new type of poetic language. It is possible that Closed Vision may fix the spirit of an era and even be used to condemn an era. Salvador DALI recently told me in Madrid about a new science he calls Phoenixology. It is the science of dying several times in a row and reliving in the flesh. We see this phenomenon in our old films. It is found in Closed Vision - which would prove that there is a tradition of the vanguard or what is usually advertised as such. A young man who expresses himself with singularity expresses himself the very minute his revolt demands it. Being a precursor is unthinkable (
