ARAGON Louis (1897-1982)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Denise LÉVY. Paris, January 22nd 1924, 2 pages in-4 in ink on letterhead of the "Café Français Restaurant". Letter in ink signed by Louis Aragon in a slightly desperate tone to Denise Lévy with whom he was very much in love and who inspired him to write the character of Bérénice for his novel Aurélien. Denise Lévy, cousin of Simone Kahn (André Breton's first wife), married Pierre Naville for a second time. "You have given me no right to bother you, rather silly hauntings, which I have kept you too much of. Please consider that it doesn't matter to me. ...] It is precisely because I am in the state of a poor man, you understand, one cannot say sad or happy, it is a question of something else, but poor, poor, poor, poor. A misery. There's something I miss like when one is hungry [...]".
