Jésus-la-Caille, book illustrated with original engravings by Auguste BROUET. Paris, Éditions de l'Estampe, 1925. In-4 (258 x 198 mm). Binding signed "ROSE ADLER" and dated "1931" on the upper back cover, signed "A[ndré] Jeanne Dor" on the lower, black glazed calf and ivory morocco, upper cover decorated with the title whose letters are mosaic of brown morocco or black calf, some enhanced with iridium, the lower cover decorated in the lower corner, of a rectangular mosaic composition of brown and black calfskin, smooth spine decorated with the title and author's name cold-stamped with three letters enhanced with iridium, inner lining of brown calfskin in a black calfskin and ivory morocco frame punctuated with small mosaic rectangles, black moire endpapers, double endpapers decorated in grey and silver, iridium edges, cover and spine preserved. Matching shirt and case (back of the shirt and case rubbed), modern canvas box. Illustrated edition of 30 original etchings including 10 full page etchings by Auguste Brouet (1872-1941). Edition at 272 copies including 20 out of print. N°39 of the 50 copies on Madagascar, after 12 on Japan, with a series of etchings including one state of the in-text and two states of the off-text enriched with three etchings not retained, one of which is free. A pupil of Gustave Moreau, Auguste Brouet (1872-1941) worked among others with Whistler and Degas. Noticed by Jacques Doucet in 1923 during the exhibition of Decorative Arts at the Pavillon de Marsan, Rose Adler (1890-1959) made her debut with Pierre Legrain.
