CHAR RENÉ (1907-1988)
Artine, first edition illustrated with a frontispiece engraved on copper after Salvador DALÍ accompanied by an exceptional signed autograph. Paris, Éditions surréalistes, by José Corti, 1930. In-4, frontispiece, 20 leaves, paperback, modern black morocco slipcase, paper plates illustrated with abstract motifs, black suede lining. Original edition of this collection of poems by René Char, dedicated to "Au silence de celle qui laisse rêveur". "Artine is made up of several superimposed characters, who represent everything "the imponderable being", the beautiful stranger we didn't expect, the fascinating star, whose eyes cannot be detached [...] It is a series of dreamlike paintings that borrow from dreams its blur, its discontinuity. But the elements that bring the poem closer to the dream itself abound" (Jean Voellmy, René Char, ou, le mystère partagé, 1989, pp. 18-19). One of the most precious copies of this book. It is one of the two non-commercial copies on ancient Japanese, numbered and signed by the author, the only ones, along with the first 30, to be illustrated with an engraving by Salvador Dalí. A PERSONAL EXAMPLE OF DALÍ with this autograph from the author: "to Salvador Dalí/ his friend in any weather/René Char". René Char had only joined the Surrealist group in 1929, and it was after a stay at Dalí's house that he published this collection. The other non-commercial copy was the one reserved for the publisher José Corti. It is a perfectly preserved copy, despite the slight reddening of the cover. Exceptional copy.
