Cubism, illustrated book decorated with original engravings. Paris, Compagnie Française des Arts Graphiques, 1947. In-4, 1 f. bl., 79 pages, 2 ff. n. ch., and 11 intaglio etchings including 7 originals and 4 made after the artists. Black half-maroquin with thin bands bordering geometrically composed dishes of waxed or mat paper, forming a cube with multicoloured facets, smooth spine bearing the title in gilt letters, gilt head, slipcase (dated and signed "Pierre- Lucien MARTIN. 1973"). Original etchings by Marcel Duchamp, Albert Gleizes, Marie Laurencin, Jean Metzinger, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon, Georges Braque, André Derain, Juan Gris and Fernand Léger. Second edition, enlarged, and first edition illustrated with original etchings. It has a print run of 455 copies. The first edition of this pioneering essay on cubism, by two of its representatives, was first published in August 1912, before the studies of Salmon and Apollinaire. It contained only reproductions. One of the 20 head copies on paper of Auvergne, with two additional suites, printed in black and bistre on ancient Japan.
