JACOB Max (1876-1944) - Lot 98
JACOB Max (1876-1944) Autograph manuscript of a poem with two original pen drawings. 1939, 2 pages in-4 in ink, graphite and pencil. Unpublished poem of 16 verses (4 quatrains), "written for a contest June-July": "Put the tablecloth of the Loire/ the birds will come to fish/ [...]/ Put the tablecloth of the Loire/ in honor of my Basilica/ my vast thought is like a fair/ too small for her is her bed". On the side, a pen-and-ink sketch of an Amazon on horseback, her long skirt almost falling to the ground. On the back, high up, a more elaborate drawing of this Amazon, in graphite and pencil, is dedicated: "to the dear Mr Gayon, testimony of sincere friendship Max Jacob 39".
