LOUŸS PIERRE (1870-1925), RÉGNIER HENRI DE (1864-1936), HÉROLD ANDRÉ-FERDINAND (1865-1940)
Neuvaine de sonnets, autograph manuscript signed. Brussels, Sunday 18 February 1894, 16 leaves in ink. Autograph manuscript of 16 sonnets on the back of 16 single leaves signed by Pierre Louÿs, Henri de Régnier and André-Ferdinand Hérold. Autograph note of Pierre Louÿs: "I composed for the first time in poetic ineptitude and at 23 years and 2 months, I was handicapped by the veteran who was 30 and even by the second (29)". Manuscript of fanciful sonnets with three hands, some of which are very free. It does not seem, in spite of their ironic titles, that the sonnets set to music by Fauré, d'Indy or Debussy, have never been. These sonnets, written on a Sunday of idleness by three talents, friends at the time, were not published until a century later in 1983 by "A l'Écart". Pierre Louÿs, the youngest of the three, had piously kept them.
