PROUST Marcel (1871-1922)
Looking for lost time. Volume II. In the shade of the young girls in bloom and two "cupboards" of corrected proofs. Paris, Nouvelle Revue Française. 1920. 2 parts in 1 volume in-4. Full lemon morocco, framed by a brown painted cold net, mosaic composition on the first plate representing a spray of flowers with black morocco cut-outs, cold fillets and crosses, smooth spine decorated with a vertical cold net stem decorated with black morocco mosaic petals; author's name and title in cold cloth, inner frames set with a triple cold cloth net, lining and endpapers in black speckled gold, slipcase (contemporary binding signed Jeanne Zipelius). (Uncut, uncut, the first printed pages are crumpled). Deluxe edition of 50 numbered copies on Bible paper, n° XV, with portrait of Marcel Proust. Complete copy of the two "placards" of proofs corrected by Marcel Proust, the first of which, almost entirely handwritten, relating to the fundamental analysis for the novel of Swann's jealousy for Odette, has been entirely reworked and transformed in the edition. The second cupboard of proofs, for its part, relates to a tasty passage concerning the great writers of the narrator belittled by the anecdotal lorgnette of Mme de Villeparisis, joining Sainte-Beuve in her condemnation of the masters by the "lived" nature of their character. These two cupboards are mounted one after the other at the end of the volume, in perfect condition (despite a few freckles and the usual traces of glue). The first "cupboard" is in four parts that are not joined together, while the second is joined together in a single fold-out sheet. The set has the value of 16 printed ½ pages of the edition: 1) 230 x 115 mm, marked in blue pencil with the indication "N°5": it is entirely handwritten and contains the value of one printed page with 7 crossed out lines; 2) 310 x 155 mm: 2 pages of proofs with 25 crossed out lines and the value of one printed ½ page as a marginal handwritten
