Rousseau de Plaisance, autograph manuscript on the DOUANIER ROUSSEAU. S.d., 6 pages in-8 in blue ink on squared paper. Originally entitled "Le Douanier Rousseau de Plaisance, peintre du dimanche" (crossed out), Rouault relates several anecdotes experienced by Le Douanier. "Quite outside the clans and small chapels, having known him in his neighbourhood, I can perhaps talk about it and sketch him without too much bias in a light stroke..." In particular, tell how Rousseau asked Ambroise Vollard if he had "made any progress", and asked him to write him "a confirmation and assurance of the progress made". On his dealings with the Salon d'Automne, his financial worries due to the fact that he did not understand the drafts he was signing. Attached is a second manuscript monogrammed by Bousquet, Portrait of the painter, 4 pages in-8 in blue ink. Very many erasures. With a transcription by Claude Roulet corrected by Rouault.
