Charming story of the teenage girl Sucre d'amour, illustrated book. Paris, F. L. Schmied, 1927. In-4 of 168 pages, full burgundy morocco, top cover decorated with a lacquer in a circle 125 mm in diameter after a composition by Schmied ("portrait of the two lovers"), smooth spine, back covers lined with orange morocco, burgundy morocco frame decorated with a double set of gilt fillets extending over the cups, burgundy moire guards, gilt edges, preserved illustrated cover, black half morocco shirt lined with brown velvet (signed Gruel). Original edition of this unpublished oriental tale, 25 copies printed in Japan, numbered and signed by the artist (this one is n° XX). Copy enriched with an autograph signed by F. L. Schmied in black ink on the white page preceding the false title: "To Mr. Marquis A. de Marchena, a true, attentive and sensitive friend of artists and art, as a testimony of deep and respectful attachment". F. L. Schmied". (1 signed frontispiece, 7 full-page compositions including 5 signed off-text, 51 banners or vignettes, and 10 historiated letters). The rarest of the books illustrated by Schmied, entirely hand-coloured.
