APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume Vitam Impendere Amori. Paris,... - Lot 372 - Artcurial
APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume Vitam Impendere Amori. Paris, Mercure de France, 1917. In-8 (23.3 x 15.5 cm), grey box mosaic of red, yellow, orange and blue box arabesques, smooth back, orange suede lining and guards with red box frame, gold edges, preserved cover and back, grey half-box case with stripes, case lined with same skin (Paul Bonet, 1966). Original edition. Decorated with 8 reproductions in black of drawings by André Rouveyre. One of the 10 copies on paper of Japan (n° VII, second paper), signed at the justification by Guillaume Apollinaire and André Rouveyre. The last poetic collaboration between Guillaume Apollinaire and an artist, the work was published one year before the poet's death. These melancholic quatrains invoke the memory and nostalgia of a love ending. They are framed by a first series of female faces, and a second series of representations of a female figure embracing, then nursing, a putto. Each of these series has its own style. Nice copy of this booklet, made by Paul Bonet for Colonel Daniel Sickles. PROVENANCE: - Doctor Lucien-Graux (printed ex-libris). - Colonel Daniel Sickles (Paul Bonet, Notebooks). BIBLIOGRAPHY: Paul Bonet, Carnets, 1535. Shirt and case slightly rubbed, some stains, a small lack in the title piece of the cover.
