ARAGON, Louis
Meeting of 10 signed autograph letters. [circa 1926-1928]. 10 p. on 9 ff. in-8 and in-12 and 1 double f. in-12 (various sizes). A collection of 10 autograph letters signed, undated. In one letter, Aragon asks his correspondent to repay the sums he has previously lent him: "Dear friend, you know it is not with a cheerful heart that I am asking you for the miserable thousand bucks you owe. Only, it happens that I have exactly nothing to eat. "In another letter, he explains that he himself has to face up to some unsatisfactory creditors: "Just yesterday I received a letter of comment from a guy that I should have paid a month ago. He immediately asked me to pay him off. " Aragon also mentions the sale of a Braque and a Masson: "Here's the Braque dear friend, and all I can do (instead of 8 that I asked for elsewhere, and 7.5 yesterday from you) is to leave it to you at 6 and the Masson (this one you were giving me 1200) so it comes to 7.2. " Some of these letters are written from the Puits Carré, an old farm that became the property of Nancy Cunard, a rich English heiress and a great collector of African art. For two years, Aragon maintained a passionate affair with this sultry young woman, until they broke up in 1928. Traces of folds, scattered freckles, marginal tears without affecting the text.
