ARTAUD, Antonin
Autograph letter signed. Rodez, October 15, 1945. 6 p. on 3 ff. in-8 (21.2 x 16.3 cm), 1 envelope. Autograph letter signed to Jacques Bonnefoy, public prosecutor, asking him to act against "the bad spirits" and in particular, against André Demaison. Intriguing letter written in pencil on pages of a school notebook, in which Antonin Artaud tells the Public Prosecutor, Jacques Bonnefoy, about the strange evening he experienced the day before and evokes the suspicious behavior of André Demaison: "He had found in his travels in Africa, among the negroes, particular means of magic that he used for his personal account [...]. These means, when pushed, can go as they did last night to the point of invading the general consciousness, which at times finds itself completely penetrated, blocked, compressed, asphyxiated and desperate. These means consist of entering into the consciousness of others through the channel of sexuality. " Artaud complains to Jacques Bonnefoy and asks him to act: "I would now like to walk in a world that no longer lives under the oppression of evil spirits [...]. If you could do something, at least on the side of André Demaison, this action would relieve us all. " In Rodez, between 1943 and 1944, Antonin Artaud underwent numerous series of electroshocks to treat his hallucinations and chronic delusions. But, from January 1945, Artaud was overcome by a creative dazzle. He began to blacken the pages of about a hundred notebooks, mixing writing and drawing. A fascinating letter that can be linked to the period of the "Cahiers de Rodez" and in which the delirious art of Antonin Artaud is expressed. PROVENANCE: Sale Paris, Binoche and Giquello, 30 May 2007, lot 22. Traces of folds, some stains, marginal tears without damage to the text.
