BRETON, André
Signed autograph manuscript. S. l., 29 April 1949. 4 p. and a half on 5 ff. in-4 (27.1 x 20.9 cm). Signed autograph manuscript of the lecture he was to give on the International Day of Resistance to Dictatorship and War. André Breton had planned to speak at the International Day of Resistance to Dictatorship and War, organized on April 30, 1949 by the Rassemblement démocratique révolutionnaire, where he planned to give this speech. "The challenge is to oppose the congress of the Partisans of Peace (Communists) whose writer, availing himself only of his role as "guardian of the vocabulary", tries to show that they are subverting the language. And to set an example: in the typed fragment, a long quotation from Bernanos takes on the value of a declaration of freedom from all languages. "(Online: Atelier André Breton, 2005.) In the end, he was unable to give this speech, as the session was suspended. Attached: The typed and corrected version of the text, with 7 autograph lines (6 p. in-4). PROVENANCE: Sale Paris, Pierre Bergé & Associates, November 28, 2013, lot 191.
