Autograph manuscript for Moulin premier. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Céreste, 1935-1936. 5] ff., 21 ff. (numbered 20, with a 16bis), 1 white f., mounted on tabs, in a vol. in-4 (26.8 x 22 cm), grey cloth paper, black title piece on the back, case bordered with black grief (Devauchelle). Precious autograph manuscript signed by René Char for the collection of poems Moulin premier. It is written, in brown ink, on the back of sheets with the letterhead of the town hall of Céreste (Alpes de Haute-Provence), dated 1935 and signed by René Char at the end. The title page bears the date 1936 and this mention initialled by Char: "Original manuscript having been used for printing. "A rather long writing time will make that the texts of Moulin premier started in 1935 will be published only at the end of 1936. ...] Planned by Guy Lévis Mano, Char delays the publication in order to deepen his reflection, without yet suspecting that a serious illness (septicemia) will oblige him to postpone publication in any case. ...] Paul Éluard will be in charge of following its production and his financial help will allow Char to complete this new book. "(Valentin, Supplément d'âme.) Opposite the title is a reproduction of a portrait of Char by Valentine Hugo. The whole is preceded by a long autograph signed note, entitled "Souvenir de "Moulin premier"", addressed to Mr. Conrado, detailing the genesis of this text. The first three ff. (false title, portrait, title) as well as the last one (white) are on a strong grain paper. PROVENANCE: Mr. Conrado (autograph).
