The whole is tabbed. Set of autograph manuscripts and documents relating to the piece Les Compères du roi Louis: - the signed autograph manuscript of Les Compères du roi Louis, in an almost definitive version, with only a few passages carefully crossed out. The text is divided into six parts, from the "First Image" to the "Sixth Image". Paul Fort signed the first title page and at the end of each part; - a working manuscript for the same play (also in six parts, but much less carefully written and extensively corrected); - a handwritten draft of the play, with only a few scenes and cut-and-pasted text elements, with numerous cross-outs and corrections; - a set of letters and documents relating to the play, including the autograph draft signed by a letter to André Antoine, "to thank him for his article on Louis XI curieux homme, and to offer him the dedication of Les Compères du roi Louis"; 40 rehearsal warning bulletins for the play; the printed and corrected proof of the play's poster; and the Comédie française's programme mentioning Les compères du roi Louis. The play, published in 1923, was first performed at the Comédie française on June 26, 1926. Paul Fort was passionate about history, and this play is part of the ensemble formed by his "Chroniques de France", which also includes the plays Louis XI, Curieux homme (1922) and Ysabeau (1924). A fine set of manuscripts and documents that allow us to follow the genesis of the piece Les Compères du roi Louis. PROVENANCE: Sale Paris, Piasa, 15 March 2005, lot 46. Headdress
