FOURRÉ, Maurice
Typewritten and signed for La Nuit du Rose-Hôtel. S. l., 1949. 346 p. (actually, 367 p.) in 1 vol. in-8 (27 x 19.9 cm), red half cloth, smooth spine (contemporary binding). Signed typescript of La Nuit du Rose-Hôtel, including an autograph shipment signed from Maurice Fourré to André Breton, dated February 8, 1949. First work of the "Révélation" collection, at Gallimard, whose direction had been entrusted to André Breton. This curious novel follows the peregrinations of the inhabitants of a hotel in a Parisian building, run by Madame Rose. It was written between 1944 and 1949, during which years Fourré never stopped revising and correcting his text. The manuscript finally arrived in the hands of Julien Gracq and Michel Carrouge who transmitted it to Breton. The Pope of Surrealism was enthusiastic about reading this work written by a surrealist who was unaware of his own work and organised a public reading which was a real success and convinced Jean Paulhan to have it published. Breton wrote the preface which he used for his Clé des champs in 1953. 1 autograph letter signed by Maurice Fourré to André Breton.
