In particular, there is mention of Davray's activities as a translator for the Mercure de France, "Dear friend, Just a word, on my return from London (where I spoke a lot about you with Conrad and Fosse) to thank you for speaking so well of Wuthering Heights in the last Mercure that awaited me here. "Enclosed is: - A typed letter from André Gide to Henry-H. Davray, with autograph corrections. Paris, December 2, 1913. 2 p. on 1 f. Gide refers to his translation of Tagore's Gitanjali and the competition established by Davray, who also undertook this work: "You can no longer ignore the fact that I have been granted the exclusive translation rights to Tagore's Gitanjali. You are smuggling. "A letter, probably autographed, from Henry-Durand Davray: draft reply to André Gide . S. l., December 3, 1913. 2 p. of 1 f. He responds to André Gide's reproaches in an ironic tone: "I am aware that you have been granted exclusive translation rights to the Gitanjali, and I beg you to believe that I am not smuggling. But I could not stop the newspapers from drawing at will from the only article that appeared in France on Tagore. " Traces of folds, a few stains and brown sheets.
