[GODOY, Armand]
Set of signed and typed autograph letters. 1929-1930. In-folio (32.8 x 24.6 cm), red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed (20th century binding). Set of about 141 autograph letters and cards signed and about 23 typed, addressed to Armand Godoy. The set is mounted on tabs. In 1929, Armand Godoy published a book on Marshal Foch (soberly entitled Foch), which was a great success. This volume gathers a great number of letters of congratulations addressed to Armand Godoy, following this publication. There is a card, probably autographed, from Madame Marshal Foch, who "thanks Mr. Armand Godoy very warmly for the beautiful verses he sent her on the Marshal, which moved and touched her very much, and also for the magnificent edition in which they appeared"; as well as a card, in the name of Marshal Pétain, but probably written by a secretary, who thanks Armand Godoy "for the kind sending of his very beautiful work". The letters are all more complimentary one than the other. Thus, we find letters from General Weygand: "How can I thank you for sending me your beautiful poem about my chief [...] Your inspiration is as high as your language is beautiful"; from Saint-Pol Roux: "Here comes to me, already savoured in the "Manuscript", your glorious Foch, worthy of your previous beauties. " A set of 60 handwritten letters and cards and 14 typescripts addressed to Armand Godoy (written between 1937 and 1962), by André Chamson, Eugenio d'Ors, Henry Bordeaux, René Dumesnil, Frantz Funck- Brentano and Alfred Cortot . Most of them are letters of thanks and praise for the works of Armand Godoy. Thus Réné Huyghe wrote to him: "The beautiful volume, dear Poet! You are truly the Poet: so many strings to this lyre and each one has its own song. " Traces of folds, some stains and marginal tears.
