JOUHANDEAU, Marcel
Important love connection. 1948-1968. More than 580 letters and documents gathered in 17 pet. in-folio binders. Set of 17 binders containing more than 580 letters, documents and photographs of and about Marcel Jouhandeau between 1948 and 1968. Most of the letters are presented with their envelopes. Through this precious set, one can read the intimate relationship between Marcel Jouhandeau and Robert Coquet, a young soldier met on the train in Avignon in April 1948. From this meeting, a ten-year love affair is born between the 60-year-old established writer and the 20-year-old young man. This relationship inspired two books by Marcel Jouhandeau: L'École des Garçons, published in 1953 and Du Pur Amour, in 1955. More than 400 letters are exchanged between Jouhandeau and the writer and poet Henri Rode, who will play the role of confidant to both lovers. In this correspondence, Marcel Jouhandeau mentions his fiery feelings for the young soldier, but also his sorrows. Now the intimacy between us is complete, the surrender without reserve, the unity consummated. At the same time, Jouhandeau gave Rode some writing advice: "The one and only constant rule for good writing is not to write...". ...", one must get rid of "all useless words, all that is not essential and clean". He will also give him financial support in exchange for proofreading and correcting his manuscripts. The last binders of this collection contain various correspondences between Jouhandeau and Robert Coquet, as well as photographs of the two lovers. There is also a note on Aragon, as well as numerous letters exchan
