LOUYS, Pierre
Collection of erotic correspondence and handwritten documents. 2 vol. gr. in-8 (26 x 21,4 cm), black morocco, on the plates vertical decoration of 4 mosaic discs of grey skin, snake-like, of decreasing size, smooth backs, linings and guards yellow gold for one vol. and blue-grey for the other (Bernaschina). Superb set of autograph documents, poems and erotic proses. The first volume contains 29 erotic pieces, sometimes raw, often in classical style (sonnets, alexandrines, theatrical dialogues...) where we see Pierre Louÿs devoting himself to one of his favourite activities: erotic poetry. In particular, we find an erotic calligram, pieces in verse, sonnets and prose texts. The second volume (24 pieces) completes the collection with autograph letters to his brother Georges, André Gide, André Lebey and his lover Zohra Bent Brahim. Some of the letters, in draft form, seem to be from the diary: "I had always thought that life is nothing without a beautiful death; [...] it is life that tips the balance. Only those who have been happy have received death without pain and accepted it. "A valuable collection, of the utmost interest, most of the documents have remained unpublished. Detailed contents on request. PROVENANCE: Gérard Nordmann (ex-libris; not included in the 2006 Christie's sales). Two corners of a volume knocked together. Traces of folds in the letters. Burn on the back of a f., not affecting the text.
