LOUYS, Pierre
Signed autograph letter to Colette and autograph letter about Colette. S. l., Samedi Saint [April 21, 1905] (for the letter to Colette), [September 15, 1916] 4 p. in-12 and 3 p. in-12. In his letter to Colette, which has just published Seven Animal Dialogues, Louÿs recriminates himself: "Today is a day of fasting, tell me what I have done to you. It is not enough for you to "deprive me of a dedication" and not explain why. I am wasting away because I do not have your book. I'm not wasting away enough for your taste. You are putting refinement into your torments and [...] you are forcing an article on me this morning... but an article. Well, I only read 20 lines of your article and then I stopped. ... The first twenty lines of your article are too good. That's discouraging. " The article in question is Claudine's Lettre de Claudine, signed "Colette Willy", which appeared in the magazine Le Damier, the second issue of which contained an article in honor of Colette. In the letter probably addressed to her brother, Pierre Louÿs relates "A judgment of Colette Willy", about a quarrel and a reconciliation that he had with a young girl who "had come to live with [him] for four or five days, with three trunks and a suitcase. "He wanted "to have her opinion as a woman and an excellent novelist. "His conclusion was sharp: "Pierre Louÿs, it's 18 and 15, that story... I mean, you're 18 and your friend's 15." Valuable documents on the relationship between Pierre Louÿs and Colette. Small tear without lack to the letter to his brother.
