PONGE, Francis
Autograph manuscript signed for the poem "the Wasp". Paris, May 1939-Frouville August 1943. 41 manuscript or typewritten ff., various sizes, in one vol. in-4 (27 x 21 cm), paperback, red half-marocco shirt, slipcase (A. Devauchelle for the shirt and the slipcase). Precious reunion by Francis Ponge of the "set of drafts and notes used for the text published in Domaine français Édit. des Trois collines in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) in December 1943. " The documents have been gathered and assembled by means of an artisanal tabbed assembly, most probably by the author himself. He offered this set "to Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, with the friendship, admiration and also the gratitude of Francis Ponge", as indicated in the double autographed dedication. The ensemble is composed of 31 manuscript ff. (8 ff. in the in-8 format and 23 in the in-4 format) and 10 typed ff., and presents numerous corrections, additions, repentances and interrogations ("or else to call it thus [L'Essaim de mots justes, ou guêpier]... which is even more accurate"). A f. testifies to Ponge's questioning during the writing of this text, alluding to an unsent and destroyed letter to John Paulhan: "[...] I must nevertheless ask you certain questions: it is too important for me. I think it is convenient to ask them to you about a certain work, for example the one that the Wasp is giving me at the moment. " PROVENANCE: Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre (double sending). Small tears without missing, some repaired; dirt and wear on the cover.
