PROUST, Marcel - Lot 468
PROUST, Marcel Autograph letter signed. S. l. n. d. 5 p. on 2 double ff. in-12 (17,1 x 11 cm). Autograph letter signed to Émile Straus. In this humorous letter, written after an interview with Émile Straus, Proust teases him about his pronunciation of the name Guise in [gyiz] instead of [giz]. Thus, throughout his letter, Proust bends to the literary exercise and plays with the "-gu" words to mock his friend affectionately: "No sooner had I grasped the banister of your staircase as a guide, not a guide, than the examples came back to me in droves, and if I had been sure that I could cure (not cure) the asthma attack that it would have given me I would not have hesitated to go back four to four (not four). I remembered the somewhat excessive admiration you devoted to this excellent storyteller: Guy de Maupassant (not Gu-y) [...]. Besides, we can talk about all this again since you invited me to make an improvised little party at your place (and not gu-euleton) or at least to drink some of your cider.
