SAINT-EXUPERY, Antoine de
Autograph manuscript. S. l., [circa 1938]. 3 p. in-4 (26.9 x 21 cm). Autograph manuscript, extensively crossed out and corrected. Saint-Exupéry recalls a mission in South America: "The ministry having entrusted me with a propaganda mission in South America, in connection with Maryse Bastié's trip, around October 1937, I decided to carry it out on board my personal Simoun plane instead of asking for the loan of a military plane, as Maryse Bastié did. ...] This trip was already shaping up to be a disaster for me. " In 1935, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry bought a Caudron Simoun model C630 and in 1938, he decided to attempt the New York - Tierra del Fuego raid. But the tanks were overloaded and the plane failed to take off and crashed at the end of the runway. Saint-Exupéry was seriously injured and narrowly escaped amputation of his hand. Traces of folds.
