SARTRE, Jean-Paul
Autograph letter signed. S. l., January 24 [1940]. 3 p. on 2 ff. in-4 (26.8 x 20.9 cm). Autograph letter signed to his mistress Wanda Kosakiewicz. Since the beginning of the phoney war, Sartre is mobilized in Alsace. Seeing the date of his next leave approaching, the impatience of the reunion is expressed: "I also thought (I will be in Montparnasse around 7 o'clock ½) that it would be better to see us again at your place, if you want, because the Dome or some other place will put an imperceptible distance between you and me and I would like to see you again without distance for the first moments. I wouldn't like to see you on the other side of a table - or even on the bench beside me but without being able to hug you because of the people. I love you. " He also refers to Lucie Ville, known as Marie Girard or "the lunar woman": "You know, I'm a little worried about you and the lunar woman, I wonder if you're happy with it, especially now that the lunar woman disgusts you. "It's also about the surrealists and especially Breton: " You know, I'm reading two books in which the surrealists are portrayed as romantic characters. In one of them, Breton himself plays a big role under the name of Caël and in the other one the surrealist is called Vorge. I'll bring them to you; they are not flattered in either one. Especially Breton who is shown bawling and crying but I wonder if this is true. I regret not having known all these people when it was time. "A few freckles and wetnesses.
