SIMENON, Georges
Autograph manuscript. S. l., [circa 1969]. 20 p. in-12 (13.4 x 10.5 cm). Preparatory autograph manuscript for Maigret and the killer. This manuscript presents Simenon's notes for the elaboration of his novel, to be published in 1969. Numerous notes present Simenon's thought process: the architecture of the novel is constructed through these lines. For example, the sentence "If I had a son and he tells me his intention to become a doctor, I think I would try to dissuade him from doing so.... "Simenon's preparatory notes for the rest of his novel are found below: "Sorry, tired, overworked. It was the first time. Pessimism. He loved his profession, which took up almost all his time", which will become, in the novel: "From Pardon, it was indeed the most unexpected sentence, because he was passionate about his profession and one could not imagine him exercising another one. This time he was discouraged, pessimistic, and above all he let himself express this pessimism. "A little further on, Simenon sketches the portrait of one of the characters in his novel: " Philippe Lherbier. Maroquinier rue Royale. "The Golden Crown." Villa in Cap d'Antibes. Cigarettes. Cigars". These notes show the outline of the character we find in the novel described as follows: "He has a villa much more important in Cap d'Antibes. It is also called the Golden Crown ... According to the newspapers, he has his cigars and cigarettes marked with the same golden crown. " Precious handwritten notes showing the genesis of Simenon's novel, Maigret and the Killer.
