BRAUNER Victor (1903-1966)
Meeting of 2 signed autograph letters addressed to Henriette GOMÈS, 1 ink drawing and 1 leaflet with a colour stencil. Les Celliers de Rousset et [s.l], [circa 1942-1943] and 17 June 1943, in French, 2 pages in-8 and 1 page in-12 in ink. (Slight dampening). Reunion of 2 signed autograph letters, 1 ink drawing reproducing a work by Brauner of 1942: Le Repas de la somnambule, bought by his correspondent Henriette Gomès and 1 prospectus from the René Drouin gallery for the Exhibition of Brauner's works, decorated with a stencil in red, blue and green gouache. Brauner had had to flee Romania in 1938 after the establishment of the dictatorship. The arrival of war in France forced him into semi-clandestinity. It was from his refuge in the Alps that he sent these two letters reflecting his anguish and difficulties: " I don't understand anything about it and I see that it is becoming more and more difficult. Moreover I am afraid to stay isolated in this corner [...] Between the stories of supplies and wood and other little things, I manage to work a little, but only to my taste, but anxiety is an inevitable thing even in art".
