Archives (letters, signed autograph cards, and various documents) addressed to Vittorio BARBAROUX 1932-1955, in Italian, about 60 pieces, 90 pages in-4, in-8 and in-12 in ink. Fascinating and voluminous artistic correspondence addressed to the Milanese gallery owner Vittorio Barbaroux. For almost three decades, Count Vittorio Barbaroux, head of the Galleria Milano, was one of the greatest merchants in Lombardy. His gallery, located in the heart of Milan, displayed works by Casorati, Morandi, Campigli, Modigliani, Severini, Soffici, Pisis and, of course, Chirico, with whom Barbaroux maintained very friendly relations. This correspondence began on 11 October 1932, two years after the first exhibition dedicated to de Chirico at Barbaroux's house. The painter begged the gallery owner to delay the opening of his "Mostra" by a few months. However, he delivered the paintings a few days in advance with the firm recommendation to keep them away from the eyes of collectors. A few years later, on 22 January 1938, the artist signed a letter-contract with Barbaroux for an exhibition scheduled for March. In a written map of Paris at almost the same time, he expresses his concern that another Milanese gallery was preparing to exhibit some of his works acquired on the French market. On June 14, 1938, he complains about the failure of an exhibition in Genoa and revises the price of one of his old works. After a short stay in Paris, de Chirico returns to Italy. The war broke out and contact with Barbaroux did not resume until 1945, when the painter wanted to regularise his situation with his partner Isa Pakszwer, who would soon become his second wife; he asked him to provide her with a document attesting to his residence in Milan in 1938 and 1939.
