MONET Claude (1840-1926)
Signed autograph letter addressed to an unknown S.l., March 25, 1884, 4 pages in-8 in ink on paper. In Italy for three months, Monet recounts that his visits to Paris were short and irregular: "[...] I was unable to take advantage of your kind invitation during my short stays in Paris... I only took the time to come and kiss my children... and to attend the opening of the exhibition of our dear Manet". "I was only supposed to stay here for a month, but seduced by this wonderful country that I did not know, I undertook many studies and as it is very difficult and I had to make a new apprenticeship, erase, start again to be able to do something that gives an idea of this fairy country [...];". "If I had the time, I would want to erase all that and start over again, because you have to live in a country for a certain period of time to paint it.... Can one ever be happy in front of nature, and especially here, surrounded by this dazzling light, one finds his palette very poor, one would like gold and diamond tones, well I did what I could... »
