VLAMINCK Maurice de (1876-1958)
A collection of 27 autograph signed letters addressed to Lucien DESCAVES Rueil-la-Gadelière, 1933-1940, a set of 35 pages in-4 and in-8. (Some stains and tears). Reunion of 27 autograph letters signed from Vlaminck to Lucien Descaves (1861-1949). A large part of this correspondence is focused on the literary and artistic life of the time. Descaves was then a well-known author and a member of the Goncourt jury, of which he was president. Vlaminck announced to him the forthcoming publication by Delamain of his book Hautes folies (Paris, 1934), for which he asked Descaves for a foreword. He evokes the friendships that bind them with Simenon or Céline ("Why don't you come to La Tourillière with Simenon?"); and comments on his readings such as La Condition humaine d'André Malraux, winner of the 1933 Goncourt prize, which he considers to be a reporter's book: "like Albert Londres. Reporting is to literature what decoration is to painting. What confusion in the Goncourt house [...]". He is attached: - 37 autograph letters signed by Berthe de Vlaminck to Les Descaves, Rueil-la-Gadelière, 1935-1937, 88 pages in-4 and in-8 in ink; - 1 telegram from Vlaminck to Lucien Descaves, Rueil-la-Gadelière, 23 March 1934, 1 page in-8; - 1 autograph letter signed to Edwige Descaves from Vlaminck (daughter of Maurice de Vlaminck), Rueil-la-Gadelière, 16 April 1934, 1 page in-8 in ink; - 1 autograph note by Lucien Descaves about Vlaminck, in ink; - 1 autograph postcard signed by Marie Descaves (wife of Lucien), Paris, 22 January 1934, 1 page in-12 in ink.
