DUMAS Alexandre Père (1802-1870) - NERVAL Gérard de (1808-1855)
Autograph manuscript signed
Paris, April 14, 1835. 1 page in-4 in brown ink on paper (freckles, stains, traces of folds).
Handwritten contract between Alexandre Dumas and Gérard de Nerval. The text of the contract is in Dumas' hand, with his signature, and is also signed "Gérard Labrunie" in Nerval's hand.
On April 14, 1835, Alexandre Dumas signed a contract with Gérard Labrunie and exchanged "one share of a thousand francs" paid by Nerval for several articles that Dumas promised him for La Revue de Paris. Dumas insisted on publishing his Impressions de voyage. The first two volumes appeared in 1834, the next three were published in 1837. For this, he needs money and signs this contract with Gérard Labrunie (not yet Nerval). Each article will be "at the price of one hundred and fifty francs for the sheet of the Revue de Paris. These articles, although at his choice, will deal especially with theatres".
In 1834, Nerval inherits from his grandfather, and travels. He has the funds available to contribute to Dumas' company.
