NERVAL, Gérard de (1808-1855)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Auguste CAVÉ Paris, November 18 [1841]. 1 page in-8 in ink on paper (freckles, traces of folds). Signed autograph letter from Gérard de Nerval to Auguste Cavé, then Director of the Fine Arts Section at the Ministry of the Interior. He thanks him for his support: "I have been taught all that I owe you in gratitude and what eagerness you have always put Mr. Minister in my favour". A serious nervous breakdown in February 1841 forced Nerval to seek treatment from Doctor Blanche and to remain in his clinic from March to November of that year. He therefore found himself without money: "[...] Although I am fully recovered, I feel that I can still work only sparingly, and if it were possible to receive a small monthly sum of help, until the end of February for example, I would be more sure that I could gradually resume my literary position, without risking further accidents [...]". The crisis was so violent that he did not recover, partially and punctually, until the summer of 1842.
