NERVAL, Gérard de (1808-1855)
To Lady Greig, autograph manuscript signed S.l.n.d. 1 page in-4 in ink on paper (small freckles). Autograph manuscript signed by Gérard de Nerval entitled "À Lady Greig". It is actually a poem that Nerval extracted from Goethe's Faust and translated in 1827 entitled The King of Thule. Nerval wrote several translations of this text, each with slight variations. The present manuscript was written by Nerval in honor of Lady Greig, a wealthy Englishwoman with a salon in Marseilles who was the mistress of Joseph Méry. Nerval met the composer in Marseilles while he was on his trip to the Orient in early 1843, and the two men later collaborated on several plays, including Le Chariot d'enfant (Paris, 1850).
