SADE Donatien-Alphonse, marquis de (1740-1814)
Autograph letter to his steward S.l., 10 frimaire (30 November 1794). 3 pages in-4 in ink on paper. "Well, my dear citizen, you have thus fallen back into your cruel lethargy. Oh my God how can it be that you have abandoned me in such a cruel circumstance. I have to think, then, that at the exit of my prison I found two thousand écus of debts, not a ground watching over my health in the greatest delabrement possible, here I am at the entrance of winter, obliged to make some provisions and sick in my bed; here is the state where you have left me... my position is absolutely without example and if you do not come on the spot to my help I must burn my brain. I have therefore finished this sale of the great bastide of Saumane, but sold it as it should be, for you are not unaware that the goods are selling today at crazy prices in your department, I must have at least 30 or 35 thousand francs of this object... the silence of the quinquin is something very extraordinary, it is quite singular that this original does not even want to accuse the reception of the important papers that I passed to him, I beg you to inform yourself very exactly what can become of it and to make him hold on to it.... the letter attached herewith in hand. Do not neglect this important commission, I ask you urgently as it is since the 9th termidor that his silence has lasted ... and on all things send me money ... for my position is horrible". The letter is not signed for reasons of discretion.
