JAURÈS Jean (1859-1914) homme politique - Lot 907
JAURÈS Jean (1859-1914) homme politique MANUSCRIPT autograph, [early June 1902]; 4 pages large in-fol. under folder with Senate label signed by Gustave RIVET, Quaestor. Notes for a speech during an interpellation on the general policy of the Combes cabinet (formed June 7, 1902). Jaurès acknowledges that the conditions are ideal to enable the majority to achieve its objectives: "work plan more or less sufficient - balanced budget - no diversion - moderate newspapers and associations - Regret dismisses university monopoly - national duty - secular education. Sixteenth of May - Boulangism. - Service two years stage: what we like. We will thwart reactionary manoeuvring. - In a year's time, all this can be done if we are wise and methodical [...]. With this momentum, the majority will tackle other reforms - separation of Church and State - income tax - workers' pensions: radical and socialist policy. - Beyond the strictly socialist political: necessary transformation of ownership - what does the principle of individual ownership mean?"... And to evoke public services and the nationalization of industries and agriculture. "It is because our ideal is in the meaning of life that we can realize our ideal" . Attached is an autograph fragment of a political commentary (1 p. and a half in-4 on returned Chamber of Deputies letterhead), and a photograph by Paul Nadar.
