LEFEBVRE François-Joseph (1755-1820) maréchal d'Empire, duc - Lot 919
LEFEBVRE François-Joseph (1755-1820) maréchal d'Empire, duc de Dantzig MANUSCRIBED with 12 autograph APOSTLES signed "Lefebvre", Army of Sambre and Meuse. Avant-Garde. Information on the account of the Bde Adjutant Generals & aides de camp employed in the Avant-Garde, 5 prairial V (May 24, 1797); cahier in-fol. of 14 pages. Important memoir on the members of the General Staff of the Army of Sambre et Meuse, abundantly annotated by Lefebvre. Each page presents a report on an officer, recapitulating the service records, to which Lefebvre adds a personal commentary, which he signs each time: MORTIER, DESCHAMPS, STROLZ, WERLÉ, BEKLER, VIRON, SOULERS, REN AUD, LABORDE, RAMEAU, PATEL, DROUET. About Édouard MORTIER, Adjutant-General: "This officer also has the talents of a staff officer, during the last campaign he fulfilled the duties of Brigade gal, and commanded my forward positions, both infantry and cavalry"; on Maximilien-Louis-Joseph DESCHAMPS: "This officer is of good character, has received an exellent education, has a lot of knowledge, but needs to be stimulated". Lefebvre insists on the training of officers, their qualities in the field or in the office ; he underlines the bravery of Bekler, who served as an engineering officer, the firmness and talents of Captain Viron, the intrepidity of Lieutenant Laborde, "good officer of light troops", the intelligence of Jean-Baptiste DROUET, who "possesses the talents of a staff officer", recalls that Soulers was the "Page of the cidevant roy, despite his early education has sounded proofs in all occasions of the purest republicanism, has many military talents, brave, intelligent, active, modest, obedient and in a word good staff officer", etc..
