Reconstruction of the events by a soldier - stages, battles, supplies, bombings ("for us at 41 a bomb fell on an aunt and killed several men"), surrender of Metz, departure as a prisoner of war ("we are told that we have been sold weeping and moaning confused") ; copies of the Metz surrender protocol, a general order to the Rhine Army, texts by Bazaine and Coffinières; sketch entitled Le Club des Traîtres (Judas, Deutz, Émile Ollivier, Fouché, Bazaine....); poems, etc. Enclosed is a manuscript album in glory of BISMARCK by Otto Friedrich Rudolf Peters of Karlsruhe (with engravings, photographs and documents attached, including 2 facsimile letters); plus a pass from the German occupier (Paris 1871), an illustrated menu of a banquet of Prussian veterans (Saarbrücken, July 9, 1871), and a telegraphic dispatch from Princess Lise Troubetzkoi to Gambetta (1877).
