BERLIOZ Hector (1803-1869)
L.A.S. "Hector Berlioz", Paris 4 June 1845; 2 pages in-8 (a little soiled, small hole). Curious letter following a polemic in English newspapers about an article on Félicien DaviD's Le Désert, which plagiarized an account of this work by Berlioz. . "One of our colleagues from the Parisian press having come to claim from me, as a good offi ce, the statement you read in the Morning Post, and having assured me on his honour that my article in the Debates on the Desert had not been translated, that there was not a word like it in the review of David's work published by the Morning Post, I did not hesitate to believe him. No doubt the person who had come to ask me for this letter had only read the second review in the Morning Post, which was not at all like mine. As for the other one, it is obvious that it is largely translated from my article in the Debates and I regret to see that a misunderstanding has given rise to such painful recriminations in the English music press...". He gives his address: "Rue Blanche 43". Correspondence, t. III, n° 967.
