BERLIOZ Hector (1803-1869)
L.A.S. "H. Berlioz", Tuesday [January 23, 1849?], to Charles GRUNEISEN, at the Hotel Meurice; 1 page in-8, address (a little soiled with the central fold, light slits with the f. of address). [Charles Lewis GRUNEISEN (1806-1879), English journalist and music critic, had known Berlioz when he was correspondent in Paris for the London Morning Post from 1839 to 1844; Berlioz met him again in London during his concerts in 1847; Gruneisen got to know Berlioz to the English public through his warm articles]. He was "held at home by an atrocious migraine", and regretted not seeing Gruneisen before his departure. He thanks him "for the kindness you have had once again to tell your English readers about me; a few well-thought-out lines may, as you know, be very useful one day or another, but they are here for me moreover a proof of your benevolent friendship, and that is what makes them so valuable to me... Correspondence, vol. [IX], no. 243 quater.
