DELIBES Léo (1836-1891)
2 L.A.S. "Léo Delibes", Choisyau-Bac [1877], to Philippe GILLE; 7 pages in-12, one with vignette, envelopes. Relating to Jean de Nivelle (libretto by Philippe Gille and Edmond Gondinet, premiered at the OpéraComique on March 8, 1880). Friday morning [July 6]. He is frustrated not to see anything coming. "Didn't he get anything from Gondinet? You had promised me before you even did your job to send me a copy of the final draft that he was to send you the day after our meeting. You had also promised me a few lines to try out some semblance of air (to be cut if it was long) [...]. I'm not saying it's your fault, but I don't think you care as much as I do! I am also writing a sorry letter to Gondinet "... Friday evening [September 7]. "I'm an idiot! I've just used 2 whole days of work to write and settle the end of the Duo and the trio. But he confirms their appointment for the next day: "We'll have until the time of your Figaro (2 good hours) to cut and work"...
