MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT autograph signed "Ch. Gounod", "There is a dew", a Song, 1871; title and 2 and a half pages in-fol. on a double sheet.

Melody in English for voice and piano. This "Song" [CG 457] is composed on a poem by Thomas HOOD: "There is a dew for the flow'ret"... It is signed and dated May 1871 on the title page: "Music by Ch. Gounod. London. (May /71)".

It is, according to Gérard Condé, whose excellent commentary (Charles Gounod, Fayard, 2009, p. 733-734), "a small masterpiece of verve and grace.
